Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Rey’s Secret Cousin

After seeing Star Wars, The Last Jedi, in theatres last week, there’s a lot of answers to questions Star Wars fans have. There’s also a lot of questions left unanswered, and new theories are emerging. After watching the movie, something has been on my mind after witnessing the final few scenes.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

Throughout the movie, many things are explained, one of them being Rey’s parents. During the scene with Rey and Kylo Ren, after killing Snoke, he explains that her parents are nobodies who sold her for some extra drinking money. Now, even though that’s discouraging for many people, it brings another factor to the table: Rey’s family is unknown, which means they could show up at any time. They could be out there, and they probably are.

More interesting is the fact that she was sold for drinking money. A planet that’s a big part of The Last Jedi is Canto Bight; a planet full of gambling, corruption, and of course, drinkingNow, I’m sure there’s many other planets in the galaxy with this problem, but then again, there’s always a chance Rey’s parents could be living on this planet.

Here’s the exciting part- there’s a chance we’ve seen Rey’s secret cousin in The Last Jedi, near the ending of the movie. You remember that scene where a random boy watched a ship shoot across the sky, after using the force to grab a broom? Yeah, there’s a chance that ‘kid’ could be related to Rey in some way. After all, he lives on a planet with drinking and gambling, something that we know Rey’s parents are addicted to (assuming Kylo is telling the truth), especially since they sold their daughter to buy an extra drink.

The next point to reinforce my theory is the fact that the kid was shown using the force to grab a broom- something that you could easily miss if you weren’t paying attention. This could mean one of two things; either the director wanted to show the audience that more young children are out there, with the ability to use the force, or that this kid is from a special bloodstream- Rey’s.

Anyways… that’s my theory. The kid lives on a corrupted planet, comes from a poor family, and is shown using the force at the end of the movie. Maybe I’m just overthinking this, or maybe we’ll see more significance in this character in the next episode.
